Finally, after centuries of war and famine, with conditions only worsened, the remnants of the great civilizations were diminished to seven struggling city-states. Now led by magic-wielding despots claiming to be walking Gods, these so-called Thrones continued to use their immense power to squabble over territory and resources. A secret cabal of restorationist known as The Wellspring convened in the ruins of the grand council with the objective of dethroning the Thrones and restoring the power of the old kingdoms.
Here, in the rubble of their former glory, they turned to an ancient myth of the creation of their world; the story of Taris, the creator, the life-giver. Desperate and with Taris’ curse long forgotten, they hoped freeing her from her tomb could be their salvation.
The arrival of a magnificent comet, burning brightly across the Tarisian sky, was taken for a positive omen. But in the years that followed, the comet grew brighter and larger, eventually crashing into Tarisia near the end of the seventh year. This marked the end of the Age of Death and the emergence of The Wild.
