The Ruins of Casshern are the remains of a great kingdom that once dominated the fertile Casshern Peninsula during the Age of Abundance. Its sprawling cities rose among lush jungles, caverns, and abundant waters, joined by great roads and waterways and filled with temples, monuments, and works of carved stone. The names of most of these cities have long since been forgotten, and their scattered remains are now known collectively by the name of the kingdom that built them.

Overview

Casshern lay south of the waters now known as the Defiled Lakes, across from the present-day city of Ak-ta on their northwestern shore. The kingdom was among the great centers of worship dedicated to Taris, and nearly every telling of the Betrayal places her defeat and imprisonment somewhere within Casshern. The legendary Tomb of Taris is still believed to lie somewhere beneath the peninsula.

Today, much of Casshern has disappeared beneath the Creeping Wild, an immense and seemingly sentient jungle that grows over cities, roads, caverns, and monuments alike. Ruins occasionally emerge from the tangled green only to vanish again beneath vines and roots, while deeper within the peninsula entire lost cities are said to remain untouched since the Great Withering.

The promise of ancient wealth, lost knowledge, and forgotten wonders has drawn adventurers, explorers, sorcerers, and expeditions into Casshern for centuries. Many have never returned.
